Alfredo Zalce

In 1973 Walter L. Gray Jr. and Daniel Blanchard commissioned Alfredo Zalce to create a series of prints for their close personal friends, family and associates. They wanted to give something that lasted instead of the traditional Christmas card that usually has the “fate” of ending up in the trash as they often mentioned. So, in 1973 the tradition was born at The Grapevine Gallery with the print “Amistoso”. Every year with the exception of 1980, when Zalce was ill, a new print was created until 1998 when the series concluded with “Arreglo”. Zalce turned 90 at that time and the series came to an end. All of the available prints are signed and numbered in the series as requested by Walt and Dan.

Although we only have 4 complete sets remaining, we have several prints from the various years available. The 4 complete sets will be kept as sets and will not be broken up; rather they will be made available for collectors intact. Many collectors who are not interested in collecting an entire set should act soon if they want to add any of these prints to their collection as the availability of some years are more rare than others. Some collectors may have a partial set that Walt and Dan had given them in the past and would enjoy completing a set of their own.
