THE OPEN HOUSES FOR APRIL (7 – 9 PM on the 25th, and 1:30 – 3:30 PM on the 26th-27th open a season of major art events at The Grapevine and other major venues through the state.

JIMMY DYER, FARMERS BRANCH, TEXAS AND TONY HOCHSTETLER, FT. COLLINS, COLORADO will be here with new work for these open houses.

TONY WILL HAVE MANY WORKS to show including his new Hog Nosed Snake and the over size Bean Pods.  Tony just called a few minutes ago to say that he is sending an email of the wax of the next of his oversize plant series, Venus Fly Trap.  It looks like it is going to be terrific.

JIMMY CALLED THIS MORNING from San Antonio to talk about the missions there.  He has been down in south Texas for several days painting ranches and cattle driving scenes. We look forward to seeing what comes.

JOHN AND SUSAN WARD Estes Park, Colorado, had car problems in Kansas and were forced to return home last month.  Despite that, they have gone to special pains to get new photography and ceramics here for this month.  John has sent an amazingly beautiful print of a rainbow over a Colorado landscape, and Tony is bringing examples of unusual new work from Susan.  John took those pieces down to Tony’s house yesterday and sent me an email on Tony’s Bean Pods, saying “For me the very best of Tony’s work is that which balances delicately between realism and abstraction. . . .In this case the balance is both literal and metaphoric, and I think this is Hochstetler at its absolute finest.”

OUR ANNUAL DRUNCH will be held on Sunday, June 15, 2008 starting at 11:30 AM.  This will follow the Prix de West show at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum many of our artists are planning on coming.  This should be our largest Drunch ever.  We are proud of The Grapevine artists will be showing at the Prix de West show: Joe Bohler, Monument, Colorado; Tim Cherry, Branson, Missouri; John Encinias, Denver, Colorado; Dan Gerhartz, Kewaskum, Wisconsin; Walt Gonske, Taos, New Mexico; Matt Smith, Scottsdale, Arizona; Shirley Thomson-Smith, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Kent Ullberg, Corpus Christi, Texas.

THE RENDEZVOUS SHOW AT TULSA’S GILCREASE Museum will come on April 19.  In addition to the artists above, Tony Hochstetler will be showing bronze sculpture.  Joe Bohler will give a presentation of his dual careers in painting, piano and singing.

THE MOST RECENT Journal of Gilcrease Museum has an excellent article on the work of the late Alfredo Zalce by Kelly Finegan, the Assistant Curator who put together the show of Alfredo’s work at the museum.  The article contains a good-sized group of illustrations.  I’ll try to have a group of copies of the Journal at the open houses.  The show has just come down, and The Gilcrease asked our permission to see if other museums will be able to hang it.

THE PASTEL JOURNAL for February of this year has a Bill Hosner on the cover and an article on his work inside.  The article covers Bill’s large pastels of figures painted outdoors.  We are looking forward to seeing Bill’s works at open houses in late May or early June.

WE ARE PROUD OF ALL OUR ARTISTS.
