Dan Doak attended Scripps College, Claremont, California, where he was a Special Student with Paul Soldner.  Following Scripps College, Dan began offering his ceramics through galleries.

Dan  was Assistant Director, Ceramics Department, at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts and Humanities in Sun Valley, Idaho from 1980 to 1981 then became Co-Director of the Ceramics Department from 1981 to 1984.
